Pulmonary Damage Treatment NJ
One of the most common, and painful and debilitating, effects of an accident or personal injury is pulmonary damage or distress.
Punctured lung
A pneumothorax, or punctured lung , occurs when there is an air leak in the lung. Symptoms include:
- Trouble breathing
- Chest pain
- Weakened, rapid pulse
- Cyanosis (body starts to turn blue)
A punctured lung is not an uncommon car accident injury. To diagnose, we would take a chest x-ray at our on-site radiology services.
Collapsed lung
An untreated punctured lung or blocked airways can lead to a collapsed lung (atelectasis). Symptoms of a collapsed lung are very similar to those of a punctured lung, and include:
- Shallow, rapid breathing
- Sharp pain
- Shock, with lowered blood pressure and a rapid pulse
- Cyanosis (body starts to turn blue)
Our pulmonologists would use diagnostic imaging to determine if a collapsed lung is present. Treatment depends on the cause of the collapsed lung, but could vary anywhere from clearing the airway to surgery.
Blunt force to the chest, a commonly experienced accident injury, can lead to many different issues and complications with the lungs, diaphragm, heart, and ribcage. These issues can be very painful and impair breathing. More serious issues can potentially be life threatening. Our experienced doctors can quickly diagnose and treat these issues before they turn into more serious, long-term problems.
